[Falkirk, 05.11.2025] Falkirk MP Euan Stainbank welcomed Labour’s new £9 billion Defence Housing Strategy – the biggest renewal of military housing in more than fifty years – delivering modern, safe, and dignified homes for Armed Forces families.
The landmark plan will see nine in ten military homes upgraded or rebuilt, while also unlocking new housing developments on surplus defence land to create thousands of homes for veterans, service personnel, and civilian families.
Mr Stainbank said:
“Our Armed Forces and their families make extraordinary sacrifices to keep us safe — the least they deserve is a decent home.
“For far too long, too many service families have been forced to live in damp, unsafe, and outdated accommodation. The Conservatives’ botched sell-off of forces housing was a national disgrace that left morale shattered and taxpayers billions out of pocket.
“Labour’s Defence Housing Strategy changes that. We’ve brought homes back into public ownership, we’re investing £9 billion to rebuild and modernise, and we’re putting forces families first with a new Defence Housing Service.
“This is about respect, fairness, and national renewal — delivering homes fit for heroes once again.”

The new Defence Housing Strategy will:
- Upgrade or rebuild over 40,000 military homes to higher standards.
- Create a new Defence Housing Service to manage homes in public hands and prioritise service families.
- Build up to 100,000 new homes on surplus defence land, driving local jobs and economic growth.
- Under the previous Conservative government, satisfaction with service housing fell to record lows, with only one in five personnel satisfied with repairs and maintenance. Labour’s plan marks a clean break with that legacy and fulfils the party’s promise to deliver homes fit for heroes.
