[Falkirk, 10.02.2026] Falkirk MP Euan Stainbank has supported Anas Sarwar in his call for the resignation of the Prime Minister arguing it is time for new leadership of the Labour Government and that the country requires a clear change of direction to deliver for working people. Mr Stainbank fully supports Anas Sarwar in his bid to replace John Swinney and believes he is a credible alternative to the failing SNP Scottish Government.
Mr Stainbank said:
“I arrive each week to work completely focused on Falkirk — not the palace intrigue of Westminster or Holyrood.
“I am proud of the real change this Government has already delivered for working people, particularly on workers’ rights, lifting children out of poverty and investing in communities that need it most, including here in Falkirk.
“However, my voting record clearly shows that I have disagreed with the Prime Minister on decisions taken on Winter Fuel and welfare. I have always been clear that my first duty is to my constituents.
“My community cannot endure a third decade of an incompetent and out-of-time SNP Government in Holyrood. We must deliver a new direction with a Scottish Labour Government.
“The decision to appoint the now revealed vile traitor to the United Kingdom, Peter Mandelson, has seriously brought into doubt the judgement of the Prime Minister.
“While I welcome the honest apology for this decision shown by the Prime Minister in the last week, I have seen no indication that the necessary approach to government my community needs is likely to change under his leadership.
“For the good of the country and the Labour Government, I agree with Anas Sarwar in his assessment yesterday that it is time for the Prime Minister to resign to allow for new leadership for the country.”
Mr Stainbank reiterated that his priority remains securing the best outcomes for Falkirk and ensuring that working people see tangible improvements in their daily lives.
