[Falkirk, 01.04.2026] Falkirk MP Euan Stainbank has welcomed the reduction in household energy bills coming into force today, as Ofgem’s new price cap lowers costs for millions of households across the UK for the next three months.

From 1 April to 30 June 2026, the energy price cap will fall by 7% — equivalent to around £117 a year for a typical household paying by Direct Debit.  The typical annual bill under the cap is now £1,641.

The reduction is driven by the Labour Government’s Action in the November 2025 budget to cut £150 in Green Levies from every household’s energy bills.

This comes as the Government continues to develop further targeted support for households ahead of expected price increases directly linked to the war in Iran later in the year.

Mr Stainbank said:

“Today’s reduction in the energy price cap will bring down energy bills and provide some welcome relief to households in Falkirk and across the country.

“This direct cut to energy bills was caused by the Labour Government removing £150 of Tory-era green levies from bills in last year’s Budget.

“That is why it is right that further support is being developed. We must learn from previous schemes and ensure help is properly targeted and fair.

“At the same time, we cannot ignore the warning signs. Global energy markets remain volatile, and there is a real risk that prices could rise again later this year. That is why continued action is essential.”
