Back UK Bus Manufacturing: Parliamentary Reception – 10 June 2025

On Tuesday 10 June 2025, I was proud to host, alongside my Co-Chair, the inaugural ‘Back UK Bus Manufacturing’ parliamentary reception as part of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for British Buses.

Held at Westminster, the event brought together parliamentarians, industry leaders, and representatives from across the UK bus manufacturing supply chain. It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the strength of this vital sector – one that employs over 4,000 people directly and supports nearly 13,000 more in the wider supply chain.

We also used the event to highlight the strategic opportunity presented by the decarbonisation of our bus fleet. With around 36,000 fossil-fuelled buses still on UK roads, the transition to zero-emission alternatives is not only necessary to meet our climate commitments – it’s also a chance to drive economic growth, create well-paying jobs, and position the UK as a global leader in clean transport technology.

With UK-made zero-emission buses already being exported around the world, and the Chancellor’s recent announcement of £15.6 billion for local transport projects, we have a real moment of opportunity. Through the APPG, we’re calling on the Government to go further – using the upcoming Spending Review and Industrial Strategy to unlock the full potential of British manufacturing.

I’m grateful to everyone who attended the reception and showed their support for this crucial industry. I’ll continue working in Parliament to champion British bus manufacturing – for our economy, our environment, and our communities.
